Interesting one this one! ?
Whilst a calorie deficit, regular strength training & increased protein intake are might be the PRIMARY drivers for fat loss, I’ve often talked about the additional importance of managing our stress levels
But exactly HOW does stress impact our ability to burn fat? ?
Well, according to this post, it doesn’t ? Well, at least not DIRECTLY! In other words, elevated levels of cortisol do NOT directly impact our ability to burn fat.
That said, in my own coaching experience, I have DEFINITELY observed that those who are highly stressed often struggle to burn unwanted body fat
So, what’s going on here? ? Well, for me, the answer is simple. When we’re stressed ⬇️
1️⃣ There’s an INCREASED likelihood of emotional eating // i.e. eating due to emotion and not hunger. And let’s face it, when we’re stressed, we’re not going to be reaching for an apple!?? No, for most of us, comfort eating means something more indulgent – like chocolate, croissants, or cheese ???
2️⃣ There’s a DECREASED likelihood of us exercising or training // this might either be because we’re not in the right headspace or de-motivated, or quite simply because we don’t have the time! ?
Whilst the pace of modern-day life might mean stress is unavoidable at times, long-term it certainly has the potential to scupper our calorie deficit sabotage our fat-loss journey! ?
