Do You Eat Your Feelings? 🍫

“Re-fuelling” isn’t the only reason we eat

A few other examples might include

➡️ Connection 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
➡️ Experience 🌆
➡️ Comfort 🤗

Comfort eating is something that comes up with my clients every single day

Aka emotional eating, it’s when we use food to soothe emotions – usually negative ones (such as stress, depression & anxiety) but sometimes positive ones too!

As the name suggests, there’s no hunger involved 🤷🏻‍♂️

Now, assuming you’re not a psycho 😆 you WILL experience emotions

Everyone has different systems for processing these. Some people

Walk 🚶
Gym 🏋🏻‍♀️
Smoke 🚬
Talk to a friend 👯‍♂️
Watch TV 📺
Drink alcohol 🍺
Mlleditate 🧘🏼

And some people eat 🍕

All of these are normal

All of these are understandable & ok

None are anything to be ashamed about. None are a personal failing.

SOME, however, are more supportive of our health & fitness goals others 🤔

Suffice to say that …

If our “go to” when triggered is food, and we’re experiencing lots of negative emotions, it also makes sense that we might experience overeating and gain weight

And if this is causing us a problem, it doesn’t have to be this way …

… perhaps we might considering making changes 💚

Can we change how we soothe our emotions?

I see clients developing new & more “goal supportive” systems all the time

Well, it starts with self awareness 🧠

It starts with achieving greater clarity on how our mind works & being at peace with where we’re at

➡️ What are my triggers?
➡️ Why are these my triggers?
➡️ What emotions do I feel?
➡️ How do I react?

In my mind, only once we have the answers to these questions are we ready to explore options for change

Self awareness is the foundations. We can’t build a “house of happiness” without it 🏠

Some people find self reflection easy

Some don’t

If you find introspection difficult, then you might consider putting yourself in a supportive, empathetic & reflective environment to help you move forwards 👊🏼

If this is you, then I’d love to help ☺️

Stay awesome & keep going,
